ABOUT

Meet Your Host, Sarah (& Tiger Lily)

I live onsite in the house at the front of the property, which was originally our family beach home. After moving in to the large property full time a few years ago, I decided there was a better use for the space.

I had been self employed for many years, and wanted to remain so. I decided a purpose-built tiny house accommodation was the answer, to enable me to have the beach lifestyle that I am privileged to enjoy every day, as well as share this with others.

I engaged a company to create the tiny house, which involved quite a few months of design for both the interior and exterior areas. The name was important to me in my journey, so decided on Aroha, which means "love" in the Maori language. What I have created, along with all local builders and other local businesses, is a wee place of happiness.

As Aroha is only 29 square metres inside, I wanted the colours to be relaxing and flow well from inside to out. The extensive outdoor space is also purpose built so that you can utilise the area in most weathers, with an impressive awning and large resort style umbrella for shade.

Coastal plantings have been added around the outdoor area to enhance the feeling of being close to the sea. It's only a 2 minute walk to the beach!

My favourite things about Peka Peka Beach are swimming, catching whitebait and collecting Tuatua, while also being in close proximity to Waikanae and Waikanae Beach, where you can find plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shops.

You will most likely meet my cat, Tiger Lily, at some stage during your stay, as she loves to greet guests and lounge about on the patio.
